Heritage in the spotlight in Arabesques 99

This issue, to be published in a few days, is devoted to heritage collections and their digital enhancement. Ten institutions share their experiences, talk about their tools or their mediation actions and present their strategy for developing collections and services for the public.

Bibliographic Transition

For several years now,Abes has been experimenting with the restructuring of Sudoc data by means of an algorithm that automatically creates clusters of bibliographic records and the corresponding "work pre-notices", with the aim of considering the application of the IFLA-LRM model. The evaluation phase of the second experiment has just been completed: the aim was to compare the work of the algorithm with that carried out by a panel of cataloguers on the same corpus.

New business model

TheAbes, as part of a global reflection on its economic model, is currently studying the implementation of a new method of agreement and invoicing for the participation of institutions in the Sudoc and Calames networks. A survey is currently being conducted among theAbes and Calames correspondents to gather information on the volume of collections and to verify the feasibility of one of the scenarios envisaged. Once validated, the scenario will be presented to network representatives.

National licenses

At the end of 2020, it will be 10 years since the Ministry of Higher Education and Research mandatedAbes to negotiate and acquire, with centralized funding, digital documentary resources in the form of national licences. On the occasion of this anniversary, we look back at the progress made and the experience gained.

Network IdRef

PAPRIKA.IDREF.FR: the interface for viewing and correcting links offers a decision support tool, called Qualinka, which has recently been enhanced. An article (in English) is already available, to present this evolution.
IDREF SCRIPT FOR WINIBW: the new script, which allows linking and creating authority records from WinIBW with the facilities offered by IdRef, was presented to the Cataloguing and Authorities Correspondents during a J.e-course, now available to all cataloguers. The script needs to be installed manually, but a procedure and a video tutorial guide users through the installation.
HARMONISATION OF DATES: to lighten the correction work for cataloguers and contribute to the quality of the data,Abes is correcting and harmonising the dates in fields A103 (where "XX" is required for unknown years) and A200 (where "..." is required). More than 15,000 records have already been corrected.

2021 AGREEMENTS 2021 agreements: two copies of this agreement (one to be returned signed) were sent to the network's institutions. It includes the amount of the 2021 invoice, to enable budgetary commitment (the Agency's Board of Directors decided that the amount of the 2021 invoice would be equal to that of the 2020 invoice). The Relationship Officers atAbes monitor the signature circuit.

mBMS: the University of Rouen Normandie was able to complete its reinformatisation project and officially switch its Alma instance of Ex-Libris into production in May 2020, despite the delicate period of containment.
SEMINAR FOR CATALOGUE CORRESPONDENTS:Abes is collaborating with the CRFCB Médiat Rhône-Alpes and is co-organising a practice analysis seminar for Cataloguing Correspondents on 3 and 4 December in Lyon. This is not a training course, but a time for exchange and analysis of the function, in the face of changes in the SCD and professional practices.
INDEXATION GENRE / FORME : the correction work ofAbes on genre/form indexing, in the framework of the Rameau reform, continues. For information, to date, nearly 1.45 million bibliographic records have been processed. In September, the work on maps began.
Regular checks show that, on the whole, cataloguers respect the use of B608.

ACTIVITIES OF THE RCs: at the end of the three-year agreement of the Network Centres Sudoc-PS 2018-2020, it is now time to take stock. The Continuous Resources Department publishes the quantitative analysis of the projects and activities that have been carried out.

ILL TOOL FOR NON-DEPLOYED LIBRARIES : until now, these libraries, members of the Sudoc-PS network, had to sign an agreement withAbes and go through the Network Centre to benefit from access to the professional ILL module of Sudoc. TheAbes, in its desire to simplify administration, simplifies the procedure and relieves the RC managers of the processing of these requests.

OPEN SCIENCE PASSPORT: the University of Lille and the Skills and Training colleague of the Open Science Committee have created the Open Science Passport, a practical guide for doctoral students to put open science into practice at every stage of the research process. The digital version of the guide can be distributed to PhD students and used in training courses. A printed version will be sent to French doctoral schools.
CATALOGUE GUIDELINES: what to do in case of lost theses, not deposited or deposited without the requested corrections? To help cataloguers in the treatment of these complex cases, the Thesis Department has enriched the documentation and will present the instructions to the Thesis Coordinators and Cataloguing Correspondents, during a J.e-course, on 15/10.

    Spotlight on

The golden rules of shared cataloguing

The start of the new school year is a good time to remind ourselves of good practices, to play "collectively" and to be at ease within a shared cataloguing network.
Abes presents these "golden rules" in a document that can be downloaded and kept within easy reach.
