happy new year 2021

Arabesques: 100!

This special issue sheds light on 25 years of partnerships and institutional life of the Agency, but also on 25 years of the life of our networks. A big thank you to the authors, key personalities and everyday actors! The issue also reveals the results of the survey conducted among the magazine's loyal readers.
A collector's edition!

Sending of purchase orders for invoices forAbes

The notices of sums to be paid (invoices) for the different services of theAbes (Sudoc, WorldCat, HPB base, Calames) will be sent at the end of the first quarter of 2021. To ensure smooth processing, the Relations Officers atAbes are invited to communicate the references of the purchase orders to: finances[at]abes.fr. For the submission of invoices on the Chorus portal, please also indicate the SIRET number and the service code, if applicable.
Institutions that are members of ISTEX are invited to submit the information required for invoicing operations before 15 February via the dedicated platform.

Bibliographic Transition

The 5th Professional Day on 4 December,"Cataloguing by entities, or the big bang of data", was a real success, with almost 500 participants connected. The presentations are now online, as well as the speakers' answers to the questions asked during the day.

National licenses

The reporting of corpora acquired under national licence in theAbes tools is evolving: the possibility of accessing a title on the publisher's platform or on the ISTEX platform will result, during the year 2021:
- in the provision of 2 distinct files in BACON,
- in the presence of 2 distinct copies in the Sudoc catalogue,
- in the provision of 2 distinct webservices for automatic exemplarisation.
The journals of the publisher Wiley are the first corpus concerned.

Network IdRef

PARTNERSHIP WITH CAIRN : Cairn is interested in IdRef to identify the authors of its documentary resources. Thanks to the CERCLES projects carried out by the SCD of the University of Picardie and the BNU of Strasbourg, many authors of ebooks already have an authority record IdRef. A global partnership has just been launched between Cairn and theAbes. Eventually, new authors publishing in Cairn resources (whether ebooks or journal articles) will be identified with a number IdRef ; their authority record will be created and enriched via IdRef. This new partnership reinforces the role ofIdRef as a pivotal reference identifier in the scientific publishing sector in France.
NATIONAL FILE OF RAMEAU PROPOSALS: following the changes brought about by the current Rameau reform, the National Rameau Centre is changing the scope of "Rameau Proposals" and is offering an online document so that cataloguers can now know which terms can or cannot be the subject of a Rameau proposal.
NEW VERSION OF PAPRIKA: the application for curating links between bibliographic records and authority records (natural persons), paprika.idref.fr, has been updated. Three new functionalities are proposed (locating the source bibliographic record of an authority, enriching the diagnostic assistance), including one in test (locating precise references on the result screen).

Calames network

JOIN THE CALAMES NETWORK IN 2022: interested institutions are invited to send a letter of application to the Agency's management before 15 March 2021.
DECISIONS OF THE CALAMES WG: the group met last December and validated the development guidelines on whichAbes must work with the WG, in its new configuration, from this February. They concern data administration, data import and export methods, and the development of public and professional interfaces with the addition of new functionalities. The Correspondents Calames have been informed.

STATISTICS 2020: the analysis of production statistics shows that the particular working conditions in this year 2020 have not disrupted the vitality of the network: a record year in terms of creations, and a great diversity of collections reported!

Sudoc network

JOINING THE SUDOC NETWORK IN 2022: interested institutions are invited to send an application letter to the Agency's management before 15 March 2021.
mBMS: the 6th mBMS day, which brought together the member institutions of the consortium, took place on 15 December. It marked the transition to the "post mBMS" era, since the project's framework agreement is now over and the support actions ofAbes around a new generation BMS now concern all the institutions of the network. The presentations are online.

CONTINUING TRAINING FOR COORDINATORS: in 2019, it has been proposed that institutions wishing to do so should upgrade the function of Coordinator Sudoc, to a "data" profile. This may result in the establishment of new collaborations with other library departments. A "J.e-course" is now available on this subject (see chapter 3"Coordinators: how to encourage collaboration in your institutions?").
CATALOGUE CORRESPONDENTS : How do the Cataloguing Correspondents use the functions offered byAbes ? What tools do they use? What are their training needs? The analysis of the results of two surveys carried out in the autumn among them provides answers to these questions.
BnF IMPORT NEWS: the way in which BnF bibliographic records are imported is changing, with the aim of making more records available to cataloguers, and more quickly. Cataloguers were informed on 1 February and will be asked to evaluate this service after a period of six months.

2021-2023 AGREEMENT : with an overall budget that has increased by 13% compared to the previous agreement, which confirms the support given by theAbes to the Sudoc-PS network, 99% of the projects proposed by the Network's centre managers will be able to be subsidised. A summary of the projects is published in the blog "Fil Abes" and gives a glimpse of the activity of this network.
A VIRTUAL MEETING IN MAY: the annual meeting of the Network's Centre Managers Sudoc-SP has been postponed to 14 October 2021, due to health conditions. However,Abes would like to keep the spring meeting with the managers, in virtual form. A call for ideas has been launched to set the agenda.

Sharing teaching resources for BU courses

The "Information Skills" community is celebrating its 2nd anniversary. This is the occasion to remind that its portal Zenodo allows the storage and sharing of educational resources (course material, serious games, methodological documents).
On the issues that concern our networks, there are resources on digital identity, documentary research, thesis research, the use of Zotero, visiting BUs etc.
