Opening of scienceplus.abes.fr

TheAbes is pleased to announce the opening, in Beta version, of the scienceplus.abes.fr service, an RDF database that makes available the metadata of digital scientific publications for which reuse rights have been obtained from publishers, in the framework of the national programmes for the acquisition of nationally licensed documentation (ISTEX CollEx-¨Persée).

Directors' Day - 11 May 2021

For the second year in a row, David Aymonin invites the directors of documentary structures that are members of theAbes networks to attend the Directors' Day, online, on 11 May 2021. This will be an opportunity to discuss strategic issues related to the reporting of collections and other actions of the Agency. Each participant, upon registration, will have the opportunity to submit topics for discussion.

Implementation of the Permanent Order Grouping

A blog post provides a summary of the steps involved in this administrative simplification for the beneficiaries of the electronic documentation contracts supported byAbes.

Bibliographic Transition

The calls for applications to fill the working groups were very successful!
For the "Training" group: 14 colleagues will join the group, and 7 will become new trainers.
For the "Continuous resources" sub-group of the "Standardisation" group: the sub-group will be led by Philippe Cantié (ISSN France) and will include, in addition to representatives ofAbes and BnF, members of the networks Sudoc and Cieps, a BM, Persée and publishers.
Welcome to them, and thank you to their institutions for investing, through them, in the national Bibliographic Transition scheme.

National licenses

The reporting of nationally licensed resources is changing: from now on, institutions have the choice to report access on the publisher's platform and/or on the ISTEX platform. This means (for the "Wiley journals" corpus in the first instance):
  • in Sudoc, by creating a second copy "Abes-Licence Nationale" with the access URL pointing to the platform ISTEX, and by providing two separate lists of resources in the "Imports into Sudoc" manual
  • in BACON, by providing a KBart file version " ISTEX".
The ISTEX day on 19 January 2021, co-organised by the CNRS (Direction des Données et de la Science Ouverte and Inist), the Couperin.org consortium, the University of Lorraine andAbes, can be viewed in full on video.
Thanks to a collaboration with the CEA, the INIS (International Nuclear Information System) bibliographic database is now accessible to higher education and research establishments that have declared their IP addresses via the Licences nationales site.

QUALITY WORKSHOP ON DATUM CONSISTENCY: the vigilance of cataloguers is requested concerning the consistency of dates entered in A103 and A200$f. When recurrent errors were noted, the Authority Correspondents were informed and a correction project was proposed to them.

GUIDELINES FOR "SOFTWARE" AUTHORITIES: authority records describing software should now be considered as "Titles" authorities (code Tu in A008), should no longer be the subject of Rameau proposals, and the access point to these authorities, in a bibliographic record, should be in B605 Existing records, and access points, have been corrected byAbes.
DATA.IDREF.FR: since the middle of March, within the framework of its chain of treatment of the HAL portals, theAbes calculates alignments between the HAL bibliographical data and the IdRef of their authors. This enrichment is visible (and queryable) in data.idref.fr. Thus, data.idref.fr aggregates aroundIdRef the bibliographic citations coming from Sudoc and HAL. This novelty will be the subject of a presentation during a CasuHAL workshop on line on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

IMPORT OF TABULATED DATA: at the request of institutions, theAbes and the WG Calames are launching a study on the feasibility of importing tabulated data, a type of import that has not been possible until now. Pending the conclusion of the study, institutions are invited not to apply for this type of import.

EAD TRAINING: the École des Chartes is offering a training course from 13 to 15 September 2021 on "Describing your archive and manuscript holdings in EAD". We remind you that knowledge of EAD is part of the prerequisites of our "Cataloguer / Correspondent" training course Calames.
A PARTICIPATIVE LIST: the Calames team encourages cross-disciplinary dialogue on the mailing list, on specific subjects and thanks the colleagues who are currently expressing their views on the XML editors used outsideCalames. It reminds that the mailing list can be freely used to solicit colleagues of the network on topics relevant to Calames, and that everyone is free and legitimate to respond.

NEW ESTABLISHMENTS: the documentary institutions of the École Nationale Supérieure Louis Lumière and the Institut National du Patrimoine are joining the network Sudoc. Trained in January at WiniBW and in February on the specificities of working in a network, colleagues from these libraries can start cataloguing this month. Their previous bibliographic data will be imported into Sudoc byAbes.

2021 INVOICES: Sudoc and WorldCat 2021 invoices have been issued and deposited on the Chorus platform for those institutions that wish to do so. The other institutions have received them by courier or by post. The Relationship Officers atAbes have been informed.

RESUMPTION OF THE DUPLICATE CONTROL PROGRAMME: the automatic sending of duplicate creation email alerts by RCR has resumed. The e-mail addresses set up to receive them can again use these alert e-mails to limit the proliferation of bibliographic duplicates.
DEDUPLING TRAINING: the recording of this training is now available. On this occasion, the deduplication training exercises have been updated and brought up to standard (GM > Self-training tab).
BACON: the BAse de COnnaissance Nationale, which has just passed the milestone of 1,000 available KBart files, is evolving: on the website, the filter that limits the display to KBart files of corpora acquired under national licence can now also filter those pointing to publisher platforms and ISTEX, as well as CollEx-Persée files.

NEW VERSION OF CIDEMIS : version 3 of Cidemis was released on 30 March. It offers, among other things, a reinforced bibliographic control and the functionality to send automatic e-mails.
A VIRTUAL MEETING IN MAY: On 20 May, an Online CR Managers' Day will take place. It will provide an opportunity to review the latest news from the Sudoc-PS network and the International ISSN Centre (in the morning), and then to work in collaborative workshops (in the afternoon). The sessions will not be recorded.
ACTIVITY REPORTS 2020: Many thanks to the RC officers who have sent in their activity reports. Latecomers should report toAbes for assistance if necessary.

LINKS BETWEEN THE ISSN PORTAL AND THE SUDOC: The International ISSN Centre welcomes the work done withAbes, by mentioning in its newsletter the links to the continuous resources reported in Sudoc, now present in the ISSN Portal records.

DOCTORATE THESIS REPORTING IN OPENAIRE :Abes has been contacted by OpenAIRE, which wishes to harvest the STAR OAI-PMH warehouse in order to report French electronic theses on its platform. To this end, the exposure profile of STAR data in DublinCore is evolving. The addition of the DC:rights tag makes it possible to specify whether a thesis is accessible online or in restricted access, subject to an embargo period or a confidentiality period, and to give the date of the end of this period. This new DC profile will go live on Tuesday 13 April. At the same time, the STAR OAI-PMH warehouse will be updated. This general update will have an impact on institutions that have chosen to harvest all or part of STAR: they will receive all updates for the scope they usually harvest.
