Happy holidays!

The teams ofAbes wish all the members of its networks a happy holiday season.
Please note that during the Christmas holidays, the regular transfer and on-demand export services (network Sudoc) will be interrupted. The Agency and the Helpdesk (all networks) will be closed on 24 and 31 December 2021.

Day 7 SGB

The 7th LMS Day will take place online on Thursday 16 December 2021.
In line with previous LMS days,Abes will present the actions taken to support institutions in the process of re-informatization and the evolution of the Library Management Systems offer in the ESR landscape.

Bibliographic Transition

The 6th "Metadata in Libraries" Day of December 3, 2021 has been recorded. It is available for streaming on the BnF YouTube channel.

Last September, the "RDA in Europe" day took place, in which several European countries involved in the bibliographic transition were able to present their roadmap. It was an opportunity to discover that the French strategy is not marginal and that its work is more advanced than that of its neighbours.
Call for applications: the "People and Families" sub-group, in charge of writing the RDA-FR code for these two entities, wishes to complete its membership with the participation of a representative of the ESR libraries.

National licenses

Two corpora of ebooks, recently acquired as a national licence within the framework of the CollEx-Persée project, are now reported in Sudoc and in the BAse de COnnaissance Nationale BACON:
- Torrossa Edición Española Online: 312 research works in Iberian studies published between 1994 and 2020
- Twentieth Century Religious Thought - Christianity: 440 ebooks by 50 twentieth-century theologians as well as studies on these same works

ORCID FRANCE COMMUNITY: the General Assembly of the 41 members of the ORCID France consortium, organised by Couperin andAbes, took place in mid-November. Isabelle Blanc, Ministerial Administrator of Data, Algorithms and Source Codes (MESRI) and Odile Contat, Head of the Department of Knowledge Dissemination and Documentation (MESRI) presented the national strategy for unique perennial identifiers (particularly with regard to public policy on data, algorithms and source codes) and the Ministry's roadmap published at the beginning of the autumn
IDREF AT THE HEART OF TWO PROJECTS: in the framework of the second call for projects of the National Fund for Open Science (FNSO) in favour of open scientific publication and editing, two winning projects will use IdRef :
- Mir@bel2022: IdRef will allow a better identification of publishers' data;
- Rapido: IdRef will be used to identify the toponyms of the archaeological sites described in the scientific publications available on the Perseus platform
DISAPPEARANCE OF THE "Maiden name" HEADING : in the Persons authority records, the entry of the subfield $5k, in WinIBW as in IdRef, used to generate the heading "Maiden name". In order to comply with the evolution of French law, it is now replaced by the heading "Birth name". The documentation has been updated.

RETROSPECTIVE REPORTING: the call for projects to promote retrospective reporting of collections in Calames was launched on 12 November 2021. Applications can be submitted until 14 January 2022.
CALAMES WG: the WG held its first face-to-face meeting since 2019 on 15 October (for information, the WG charter and the list of its members are available on the documentation portal Calames). Abes thanks the members of the WG for these interesting and stimulating exchanges, which are particularly useful for preparing future IT developments in the application.
PERSONALISED CALAMES INTERFACE : the Paris Observatory now has a personalised interface for the Calames catalogue. This service is offered byAbes for institutions that wish to adapt the catalogue to their own graphic line and give access only to the collections indicated by their institution.

2022-2024 SIGNING NETWORKS AND SERVICES MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENTAbes : Two copies of the 2022-2024SIGNING NETWORKS AND SERVICES MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT have been sent to the schools in the networks Sudoc for signature and return toAbes. The Relationship Officers atAbes have been informed.

RETROSPECTIVE REPORTING: the call for projects to promote the retrospective reporting of institutions' collections Sudoc is launched. Applications can be submitted until 17 December 2021.
IMPLEMENTATIONS 2022 :Abes is changing the Sudoc production and export format in January 2022. This will lead to an interruption of the applications linked to Sudoc from 5 January (4pm) to 6 January (10am). The Sudoc coordinators have been working since October to incorporate the new features into the BMS, and the Cataloguing Correspondents and cataloguers have been discovering the future zones since November, before taking the training in December. The test and exercise database at Sudoc is already being used to practise entering the future zones.
QUALITY WORKSITE AT THE SCD UNIVERSITY OF THE LITTORAL: during the period of the second containment, quality work sites were proposed to the network, including work site n° 7 "Replacement of the "History" authority recorded as an initial element of the subject access point B606". The SCD of the Université du Littoral, among others, has taken up this project and, to date, more than 10,000 bibliographic records have been cleaned by the team of cataloguers of this institution. Many thanks, especially since the SCD is not located under all these records. This is an immense enrichment work from which the whole network benefits!

STRENGTHENING BIBLIOGRAPHIC COOPERATION : the partnership betweenAbes and BnF will be strengthened from 2022 onwards, with the import into Sudoc of the records of continuous resources created by the legal deposit service and ISSN France. Other enhancements will also be made to the reporting of serial publications: mutual rebound between our two catalogues, reporting of Gallica works in Bacon etc.
THE REPORTING OF THE GALLICA FILE IN BACON HAS CHANGED : the BnF's offer in BACON has been expanded to include a new file containing the contents of Retronews, the press archive database for the period 1631-1950. As a result, the Gallica file in BACON has been redescribed under the supplier name "Bibliothèque nationale de France".

DEDUPLING TRAINING: The J.e-course on deduplication of continuous resource records is now online.

REPORTING OF THESIS AND EXERCISE THESESIS :Abes has set up a webservice to expose in TEI format the bibliographic records of theses, created in Sudoc in Unimarc format. This webservice aims to avoid double data entry (in WinIBW and then in Dumas) for institutions that publish their dissertations and theses on Dumas. In order for institutions to use this webservice, the CCSD must implement it in the Dumas forms, by making the PPN a "content provider", i.e. a number from which the cataloguer can retrieve metadata entered in a third-party database (in this case, the Sudoc) to pre-fill the form.

REFERENCING MICROFILE IN THE SUDOC: as part of the ANRT's microfiche referencing project, theAbes network asked for help in processing the 27,000 microfiches that the automatic overlays had not allowed to be associated with a thesis in the Sudoc. The work of the institutions will enable the reporting of 13,000 additional microfiches. TheAbes will process the rest of the corpus automatically (unfortunately with a lower degree of quality). Many thanks to the colleagues who participated in the project!

    Spotlight on

The overview of IT knowledge and skills expected in BU

This question often comes up in our exchanges with the network's institutions, because the missions of theAbes correspondents often require the use of numerous IT tools, beyond theAbes applications: webservices, OpenRefine, collaborative tools. The same is true for the other functions of the reporting activity: the management of a data warehouse, a digital library, the administration of a portal, etc. require IT skills on the part of librarians.

The ADBU's SSI committee has therefore worked on this issue and is making available to all a "Panorama of IT knowledge and skills expected in BU".
