Is there a librarian in the room? Towards new legitimacies

April-May-June 2020

In a landscape impacted by profound changes in the library profession in the digital age, the question of professional identity is a major concern for librarians, particularly those working in higher education institutions.

Although their skills have been able to adapt and expand as uses have evolved, sometimes diluting between professions in fruitful porosities, the struggle for the recognition of new legitimacies is sometimes bitter, particularly in a context where financial and human resources are increasingly limited, while the stakes - in terms of open scientific communication, for example - are increasingly crucial, as the major health crisis we are experiencing underlines.

This new Arabesques dossier sheds some light on this question of our common professional identity.
